Geo. Withers & Sons, England, Violin Bow, c.1920
George Withers ran a successful shop in London from the late 1800’s, in which he was succeeded by two of his sons, both of whom trained in violin making in Mirecourt, France. This high-profile shop continued operating well into the late 1900’s, run by younger members of the family, before eventually passing on to Deitrich Kessler and, in turn, Adam Whone.
One of the grandsons, Douglas, was a trained bow maker and connoisseur, but the shop was known to have bought in bows from other fine English and French bow makers as trade demanded. This bow comprises a round pernambuco stick with silver mounted ebony frog which is decorated with pearl eyes; the adjuster of ebony, fully sheathed in silver.
This fine violin bow, stamped "Geo.W. & Sons", still in first class condition and offering ongoing investment potential, would be ideally suited to the dedicated amateur, advanced student or professional player.
